We know, as surely as David the psalmist knew, that not everything in life is good. Health may be lost. Serious illness and death may separate family members or friends. Jobs can be lost and homes damaged or destroyed. To any list we must add, in repentant sorrow, the lengthy record of our own sins, our own disobedience and rebellion against God’s Word and ways.

While we wait, He promises us: “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy” (John 16:20b, NIV). With His promise, we can picture Him in us: God’s beloved children, moved by God’s music. Maybe you’ve seen children dancing at a wedding reception. They are dancing, but they didn’t pick the playlist.

After all, they had been living with a man possessed by demons for a long time. Any time they went outside the city, there was a risk that they would run into him—naked, tortured, strong, and out of his right mind. He even lived in a graveyard!

But for adults, it’s more complicated. For example, what should you do when a corrupt government official demands a $5,000 bribe before he will allow a young child to rejoin his family in America? Should you pay up? Should you refuse, and leave the child alone in that country? And what if you have no money anyway?

Give glory to the Name of God, my friend. He is God and there is no other. Give glory to Him and obey the Gospel. Believe in His great Son Jesus Christ and in the grace God offers you in Jesus Christ. Accept His forgiveness, and live His life.
