Even if no one else sees or knows that shame, we know it and we may be afraid because God knows it, too. It is the fearful shame known by Adam and Eve when they ate the fruit forbidden to them.

It could come from living with a stubborn person or working for a bad boss. It could come from your own conflicting desires that wage war within you, or from any number of various trials that test your faith in God.

The cross looms ahead, and a borrowed tomb. Jesus is returning to the Father. But for this brief moment of peace He speaks to the Father in this world, in the hearing of His disciples. You can hear the love and concern in His voice.

That gives us hope as we live in a dark and broken world. It also gives us help right now, because we can call on Jesus for help whenever we need it. We know He will hear us and help us, because He is not gone.

We are not called to speculate on which people might be saved or decide who is “worthy” of salvation. We were not worthy, but by grace God brought us into the kingdom of His Son. Now we are called to share the hope that is ours in Jesus: “

He encourages them, and us, to be in-tune with each other, sympathetic, of the same mind, resonating together with the self-sacrificing love of Jesus Christ, our pores and fibers all full of His music.

The Holy Spirit living in us—as close as can be, but never forcing Himself on us or coming where He is not wanted. No, He would never do a thing like that! He behaves like Jesus, full of grace and love
